The cloud storms are spectacular to see. Mid afternoon seems to be the best time to see them with blue sky and all that fluffy clouds with dark hints of the approaching storm crowding the horizon. Last Sunday I took some snapshots at the beach. Today, I was at Marina Bay during lunch time. Amazingly, there was no rain today. Even the sunset was amazing to see with all that dark menacing clouds in one corner and at another corner, wispy bright white clouds seem to be dancing. I was in the bus so no photos of that scene. Here was the scene at Marina Bay this afternoon.

Must everything be perfect?
Nah…..life is so much fascinating when things are a bit chaotic and every rule in the book is broken. What does this have to do with the title of this post?
There are many post card pictures of the Merlion on the Internet, side view and front view. I just thought why not show a different perspective from the back view instead. Here it is.
Is it the best angle? No. Not even the sharpest details. Just experimenting. Yes, it was intentionally overly saturated. I just like the angle of the shot. It captured the Singapore Flyer at an angle, Marina Bay Sands at a slight arch, the Singapore Art Museum almost at the foot of the Merlion and a bit of focus to the wavy outline of the blue waves at the base. Art is very subjective anyway.
I am curious though. What is that rectangle at the back of the Merlion for? Cable wires? Hmmm. Anyway, if I am not mistaken the Merlion is being temporarily made into a hotel now.
Experiment away!

Cloudy Sunday in Singapore
Despite the gloomy weather, I decided to go ahead with a photo shoot around Bugis Street, Bras Basah Street and the surrounding area. True to the weather forecast, it started raining when I was high up on the 24th floor. The lens get wet. Not very good. By the way, this was taken from the Bras Basah building.
One good outcome – managed to get a bit of shopping done and I am now a proud owner of a pair of black boots. So suitable for the rainy season we are having now in Singapore.
To get respite from the rain, I dashed to Raffles City Shopping Mall and spent sometime photographing the interior. Will post more photos of that later. The Chinese New Year decoration were all over the mall.
On the way back, I changed my mind. Instead of taking the bus, I took the MRT. The reason? Take a look at the traffic.
Word of advise – if you going out on the weekends, take the MRT instead of the bus or taxi.
Till next time, have fun in whatever you do!
Marina Bay in Singapore
Not the very best picture, I know. Just want to show a photo taken from my camera phone yesterday. For any night shoot, I will highly recommend bringing along a tripod.
Marina Bay Sands, Singapore
This is a view of the Marina Bay Sands, a resort and casino hotel in Singapore, facing One Fullerton. Quite an architectural marvel designed by architect Moshe Safdie. Really love the boat-shape at the top. It is called the Sands Sky Park. Highest point of view in the area. Take note professional photographic or video equipment are not allowed. Nope – no tripod. So practice shooting with steady hands. I heard there is a chocolate bar there. Yum, yum.
Opening Hours:
10am – 10pm
Ticket Price:
– S$20 for adult
– S$14 for children (aged between 2 – 12 years)
– S$17 for senior citizens (aged 55 years and above)
On the left side of the picture is the ArtScience Museum – the “The Welcoming Hand of Singapore”. The ArtScience Museum will open on Feb 17 at 1:18 p.m., “as advised by our feng shui master,” a Marina Bay Sands spokeswoman said. Source : The Edge Singapore. At the end of this post is a link to the news article.
Photo taken from the Merlion Park – a great place to grab photos of the Merlion, Esplanade – Theatre on the Bay, the Singapore Flyer, Marina Bay Sands Singapore and skyscrapper buildings in the CBD. The night sky is magical with views of the flashing lights surrounding the area.
How to Get There
My suggestion : Take the MRT and alight at Raffles Place. Exit near UOB Building along Boay Quay. Take the time to take pictures because there are plenty to see. The Asian Civilisation Museum is across the river. Why not try the bumboats? Walk along the boardwalk and you will see Fullerton Hotel on your right. Along the way, the two bridges made interesting pictures. Cross the road and you will see One Fullerton and the Merlion Park is right there.
