Nature Trails in Sentosa

Sentosa’s Nature Walk – dragons, birds, flora, fauna, waterfalls……

Deep in the heart of Sentosa is a rainforest, the remains of its natural habitat. Even then, modernisation has enclosed in. But there are still pockets of nature on this island. Not many people take the time to explore here.

A decade ago, I took a walk with my colleagues in the forest with a nature guide from the Singapore Nature Society. The guide really gave us a lot of insight on the flora and fauna in the forest. I remembered him pointing out the various pitcher plant species. Did not notice them during my nature walk last month. Perhaps they were elsewhere.

Plenty of ferns still and the caretakers even have baby ferns growing on tree trunks. I even stumbled upon a termite hill. The remains of the old monorail tracks could be seen from one of the nature track. Cycling tracks are allowed here. So, why not explore when you are here.

Amidst the humidity, take a moment to slow down and appreciate nature. Hear the calls of the birds and the whisper of the forest canopy. Talking of canopy, you can now appreciate tree top views by walking on the tree-top bridge. While I was walking there, a hummingbird flew and stopped at a fruit tree. A few moments later, another hummingbird flew by. Really wish I brought along the telephoto lens. A close-up would have been sweet precious memories. Moments like this only came by once in a while.

Venture further and discover the various waterfalls in the forest. Man-made they may be, but still pretty and a welcome sight.

Somewhere in the center of the forest, there is what I dub the ceremonial area. There are stone seats and stone totems. Eh…maybe this used to be a sacrificial area? Better run now!

There was once dragons at Mt Imbiah. Legend was told that a princess once ruled this island. Along came a mighty dragon to maim and conquer but alas….wait a minute…..that is a different story!……

Discover the legend yourself at the nature trails in Sentosa.

Hi, the bird that you saw is probably a Sun bird. Singapore does not have hummingbird.
