Window Shopping in Orchard Road

xmas shopping

Window Display at CK Tang, Orchard

Pictures from the second night shoot did not turn out so well. However, I did find an excellent spot for taking pictures of the Christmas Lights in Orchard Road. The lights are on till 3 January 2011 so hopefully I can do another night shoot.

Singapore is an excellent place to do shopping. I read in a blog that there are 200 malls here. Really? Wow. In any case, if you don’t have the money to spend, just window shop. That’s what I normally do in Orchard Road. Some of the stores have excellent window displays – beautiful art form. Kudos to the people who do this for a living.

These are some of the photos. Window display taken from CK Tang, Takashimaya, ION Orchard, Chanel, Coach, Replay. The combo display of shoes, bag and accessories I can’t identify at the moment since there is no brand display – will update once I have the information.

I normally do my shopping after Christmas or after New Year, that’s when stores are clearing stock and there are plenty of bargains to be had.

Have fun shopping and a Merry Christmas to everyone! Happy Holidays!

2010 Xmas Lights in Orchard Road

christmas lights

Crowd in Orchard Road during Xmas Light Up

Bright lights shining in the city……..

The rain stopped for a while and I finally managed to get that night photos of the Christmas lights up in Orchard Road, Singapore.

Even on a weekday, the crowd was unbelievable. Hard to get a good spot. Challenging lights conditions. Best to take a tripod but I felt already inconspicuous with that jostling for space.

Will try to get more pictures later. This was just a recce.

This next time, have a Merry Christmas!

Edit : Add up more pictures below. At the end is a Youtube video, courtesy of jamcansing. Excellent quality. Feeling so nostalgic .

Xmas Shopping in Orchard Road

Gooden Lighted Ball

Christmas Lightings in Paragon Shopping Mall

I took a day off today to take pictures at Orchard Road. This is quite a departure. Mostly I am into landscape photography. Today, it was crowd watching and mall shopping pictures.

December is not the best of time to take sky-blue pictures in South-East Asia. It is the monsoon season and more times than not, it is overcast skies and bringing an umbrella along is a must.

That said, interior shots can still be done and those malls are really gearing up for Christmas. Best of times to take photographs – at night when the lights shine and it has almost a Las Vegas feel to it.  Cities everywhere around the world are lighting up with Christmas decorations.

So these are the photos taken today. The top picture is taken at Paragon, in Orchard Road, Singapore. Really love the lighted balls. So pretty. Orchard Road – no matter what seasons, weekdays or weekends – are always crowded. More pictures below.

Till next time, have fun shopping for Christmas!

Fun Winter Activities

winter activity

Winter Sport - Snowboarding

What to do when it is winter?

I wish I could ski. Or snowboard. I really do.

But I just couldn’t make the turn and always fumbled when it came to turning left. Well the ski instructor said everyone had one leg stronger than the other. Watching the little kids ski so effortlessly was no help when I felt like a complete idiot. Didn’t think it would help much if I try snowboarding next time.

Another snow activity that don’t require much skill is snowshoeing. It allows easier walking on deep snow – almost like putting a sledge on your shoes. Good exercise without the awkwardness.  There is no need to wait for winter time when it comes to ice-skating. I had tried that and it was a whole lot of fun when there were friends or family together.

When there is so much snow on the ground, making a snowman is the ultimate fun thing to do as a family. After that, it is a snow fight! Duck!

My next agenda is to try snowshoeing.

Wish me luck!

Shelter from the Snow Storm

Mountain magic. It is winter time!

Chalets shelter from the snow storm

A storm is coming……..

Outside, the temperature is below freezing and the snow storm smothers the landscape in whiteness. Indoors, it is so warm and inviting with the roaring fire burning. At times like these, I just like to look out from the windows and see the winds fluttering outside. Ever wondering.

Is someone out there?

Black and White Mountain Landscape

Winter in the Swiss Alps

Black and White Snowy Mountain Landscape

It is magical how the angle of light can change seconds to seconds. One moment it is a cloudless sky and the snow sparkles in the sun. Next it is overcast and long shadows form silhouette on the land below. Shadows and light. Mysterious and what appears as fluffy may soon be a danger to the unwary.

The land beckons. Snow capped mountains. Endless yearning. Nature enthralled.

Wish I am there!

Panorama Mountain Landscape in Winter

Switzerland - Saas Fee Winter

Panorama Mountain Landscape in Winter

I was really planning to write a series of hiking articles but got so distracted by the snow effect on the blog. It is on hold for the moment and I will just focus on posting pictures for the week.

When the snow storm move in the valley, it is hard to take good pictures. Don’t you just hate it when you are going somewhere and the sun finally shines. There is only about 10 minutes before the bus leaves. So, snap, snap!

I never really see the details until now. Just notice the cable cars among the forest leading upwards to the chalet high up on the mountain top. The view from there must be spectacular. I want to be up there!

Hope the sun is shining, wherever you are!

What’ cha looking at?

Bird watching at Gornergrat Observatory

Who’s Watching Whom

Sometimes the juxtapose of a picture strikes me as funny.

For instance in this picture, a man was snapping away on his camera, staring intently at the birds and the winter landscape. Heads turning at an angle, all the the birds attention was on him. Behind him is the Gornergrat Observatory.

Bird watching. Observatory. Watching – to observe something. Something is being watched alright. Man see birds. Birds said “I see you, man!”

Before I go off the deep end, see you on the next post!
