Serenity during the rain……
I have been photographing Lorong Halus Wetland for several months now. Seen many changes under different types of weather. When it rains, naturally everybody runs for shelter. Rain forces time to stand still at least for a while. All the plans for the next hour has to be put aside while waiting for mother nature to subside. While waiting it allows time for self reflection, melt the stress away and simply to stand still and stare.
I was caught in a thunderstorm last Friday. On the one day that I brought the tripod along for a sunrise photo shoot, there was no sun. I saw the dark clouds on the horizon at Pulau Ubin but thought there was still enough time to head back. I was too distracted trying to photograph the sea otters and did not notice the rolling thunder clouds coming from the opposite direction – the Serangoon Reservoir East Dam. Yes, there are sea otters! Sorry there are no good pictures to show but I will always cherish that sight. The sea otters consist of a family of about two adults and three babies. What a sight!
[Update : Found a Flickr picture of the sea otters here, taken by Swee Kin Lim : http://www.flickr.com/photos/limsweekin/5682927298/ . Another nice picture here from Sinkasa – http://sinkasa.blogspot.com/2011/05/lorong-halus.html. Very cool :)]
Anyway, the point of this post is to show the other views of Lorong Halus Wetland during a rainstorm. There is serenity in the landscape during the rainstorm. During heavy rain, it may not be the best time to photograph then. Wait a while for the rain to subside then go out there and shoot. Cover the lens with a plastic bag for protection. The best time for bird watching is during a quiet lull in the rain. There are eagles, sparrows, herons, egrets flying about.
The next time it rains, don’t be in a hurry to rush off just yet. Take a few moments to soak in the serenity. Peace.
