For the most part, I had taken lots of sunrise pictures. Sunset photography – occasionally.
This is the sequence of sunset pictures taken while I was at the Serangoon Reservoir East Dam during the super moon evening this year. The left frame shows the Nature Walk section of Punggol Promenade while the right side shows the opposite edge of Coney Island Singapore. Watch how the light conditions change in a matter of minutes.
Some days I was initially disappointed when I see the clouds – mostly grey sky. Just lingering for a few minutes more at one location can turn out to be the best decision ever. Composition wise, I prefer the vertical versions because the intense colours are much more highlighted. The next morning, the sunrise was indeed spectacular.
Have a great weekend and Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri to all those celebrating!
Great shots Hasayang! Patience always pays off! Have a great weekend!
Yup, Michael. Patience is always brings great reward in photography. Thanks for all your encouraging words.
The 6:58 PM sunset looks like a 1930′s postcard !! They’re all beautiful.
Really? Thanks for all your kind words
Hi,
What time do you usually have to reach Serangoon reservoir to catch the sunrise?
thanks!
Hi Joane. The best light is actually before sunrise. I would be there at 6.30am to scout the light conditions. At the latest, be there by 6.45am. Sunrise itself is about 7am. Most people photograph at the red bridge, underneath the bridge, along the shelter at the Waterway, etc. Check sunrise/sunset time at – http://app2.nea.gov.sg/sunrise.aspx

Hope that helps.
Hi, I’ve just returned to my homeland Singapore after spending 9 years in the US. I stumbled upon your blog while searching for directions to the Punggol Waterway. I consider myself an avid amateur photography enthusiast and searching for new discoveries in Singapore after being away for so long. Thank you for the easy directions to the Punggol Waterway. Serangoon Reservoir seems another good place to shoot, how does one get there? While i’m leaving this comment, i wonder would you know of a good photography group (that organizes photowalks) to join? Thanks. A new fan of your blog.
Welcome home, Ruth!
About Serangoon Reservoir, you can take the LRT from Punggol MRT and drop off at Riviera station – you can see it from the station. Walk in the directions of the Chinese temple and follow the road o. inwards. By bus from Punggol Interchange, take Bus No. 3, 83, 85.
Not too sure about a photography group that organizes photowalk. One place to check out – http://www.clubsnap.com – see their forum page, check out and see if there are outings happening soon.
Thanks for your comments. Have a great time photographing!
